Bengaluru Metro — commuter guide
Namma Metro Network
Namma Metro operates two functional corridors under Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). The Purple Line (East-West) runs from Baiyappanahalli to Kengeri, with a central underground section beneath MG Road and the CBD. The Green Line (North-South) connects Nagasandra to Silk Board, passing through the underground Majestic hub. Together, the two lines cover over 73 km with 61 stations. Whitefield (Kadugodi) extension of the Purple Line opened in 2023, significantly extending the network eastward into the IT corridor.
Key areas connected
Whitefield and Kadugodi (eastern IT corridor), MG Road (central commercial), Indiranagar (residential and retail), Baiyappanahalli (eastern railway junction feeder), Majestic (central bus terminus and KSR railway), Vidhana Soudha (state legislature), Peenya (industrial zone, via Green Line), Rajajinagar and Jalahalli (north-west residential), Yelachenahalli and Kengeri (south-west), Silk Board (south-east tech corridor).
Airport, railway and bus connectivity
KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station (Majestic) is accessed via underground subway from the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station Majestic metro platforms. Yesvantpur Junction is connected via a dedicated skybridge to the Green Line's Yesvantpur station on Platform 1. Baiyappanahalli Metro connects to Bangalore East Railway Station. Majestic is also the city's central KSRTC bus terminus — metro passengers can switch to intercity buses for Mysore, Mangaluru, and Hassan without entering road traffic. Kempegowda International Airport (Devanahalli) is not yet served by metro; the Airport Link (Yellow Line) is under construction.
Major interchange stations
Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station Majestic is the primary underground interchange connecting the Purple and Green Lines. It's a multi-level station with separate concourse levels for each line and direct integration with the Majestic bus terminus above. Indiranagar (Purple Line) and MG Road (Purple Line) are high-demand stations for the commercial district. Silk Board is a southern transit node where the Green Line currently terminates, adjacent to a notoriously traffic-heavy junction.

Commuter insights
The underground section between Majestic and MG Road on the Purple Line operates in a deep-bore tunnel and is noticeably cooler than elevated stations. Peak hours on the Whitefield–Majestic stretch (08:00–10:00 AM eastbound, 17:00–19:30 westbound) serve the IT park workforce. Namma Metro smart card (Namma Card) offers a marginal discount on fares and reduces queue time at token vending machines. The Green Line's Peenya Industrial Area station sees moderate weekday usage from factory workers.
